KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – A man has been convicted of vehicular homicide after causing a crash that killed three people in 2024, District Attorney General Charme Allen announced Wednesday. Jonathan Jones, 22, faces 20 years in prison without parole.
The crash happened on June 21, 2024 on Raccoon Valley Road. According to Allen’s prosecutors, Jones crossed the center line and hit another car head-on. The crash killed a passenger in the other car along with Jones’ wife and unborn child, who were riding with him.
According to the prosecutors, Jones had a concoction of drugs in his system, including hydrocodone, oxycodone, alprazolam, diazepam, nordiazepam, oxazepam and tetrahydrocannabinol.
“We aggressively prosecute DUI cases to deter impaired driving because it so often leads to tragedies like this,” Allen said.
In all, Jones was convicted of three counts of vehicular homicide, two counts of vehicular assault and six counts of reckless endangerment.
