KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Story courtesy of WVLT) – Knox County Schools is prohibiting the use of magnetic strips on classroom doors after a criminal trespassing incident at Hardin Valley campuses earlier this month.
Director of Communications Carly Harrington said in a statement Monday that all district facilities are equipped with automatic door locks and all doors must remain locked during the instructional day.
Harrington said individual classrooms have been using magnetic strips to allow students access in and out of classrooms during bathroom breaks.
“While we understand the desire to use such measures, magnetic strips are not permitted,” Harrington said.
The announcement follows an April 3 incident in which Zain Madadali was charged with six misdemeanor counts of criminal trespass after entering all three Hardin Valley campuses. Superintendent Jon Rysewyk said at the time that the district fell short on safety protocols and launched an internal investigation.
