COCKE COUNTY, Tenn. (Story Courtesy of WVLT) – The Cocke County Sheriff’s Office said two students have been charged after a pellet gun was found at Cocke County High School.
Sheriff C.J. Ball said an SRO at the school was notified that a student was believed to be in possession of a handgun on Monday. The school was placed on lockdown as a result, and the investigation led the SRO, along with the principal and assistant principal, to a classroom where one of the juvenile students involved was located.
The SRO searched the student’s bag and found a pellet gun that was not loaded. The student was taken into custody and searched, during which deputies found a THC pen.
Both students were removed from the school and charged with a juvenile petition for carrying a weapon on school property, Ball said. Additionally, they were expelled from school property and school functions.
“All faculty and students were safe due to the quick response of the investigation,” Ball said. “Tennessee Office of Homeland Security investigators responded to the school as well and assisted our officers in this case.”
Additional information was not released.
