NEW MARKET, Tenn. (Story courtesy of WVLT) – The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation into a deadly plane crash that happened Monday afternoon.
New Market Volunteer Fire Department Chief Sammy Solomon said rescue crews were called to the crash in a field off of Burchell Road in New Market just after 1 p.m.
When crews arrived on the scene, Solomon said two people were found dead. The Federal Aviation Administration said they were the only people on board the plane, a Beechcraft 58, at the time of the crash.
Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Coffey said a fire broke out after the crash that was about 30 yards in diameter around the plane. He added the victims’ bodies will be sent to the Knox County Regional Forensic Center for positive identification.
Numerous agencies responded to the crash, including the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, New Market Fire and Rescue, Jefferson County EMS and Jefferson County EMA.
