A construction worker was injured after being struck by a vehicle in a marked work zone Tuesday morning in Jefferson County.
According to a preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the incident happened around 10 a.m. on Highway 11E near Whitaker Road.
Investigators say a 42-year-old man was traveling westbound in the right lane and passed several clearly marked warning signs indicating a construction zone ahead, urging drivers to prepare to stop and merge into the left lane.
Troopers say the driver failed to follow those directions, struck several traffic cones, and then hit a 30-year-old worker from North Carolina who was holding a traffic control sign.
Officials say the worker was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Their condition has not been released.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation confirmed the worker was employed by a contractor providing traffic control for a tree trimming company.
The driver was not injured and is not facing any charges at this time. The crash remains under investigation.
