PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) — An investigation is underway after a suspect was shot by a law enforcement officer early Wednesday morning in Pigeon Forge.
According to Craig Cruise with the Pigeon Forge Police Department, officers and Sevier County Sheriff’s deputies initially responded to a Days Inn on the Parkway just before 4:25 a.m. while searching for a wanted suspect.
Authorities said officers were unable to locate the individual during that initial response.
A short time later, deputies returned to the motel, where the situation escalated and a suspect was shot by an officer. Details about what led to the shooting have not yet been released.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has been called in to independently investigate the incident, which is standard procedure for officer-involved shootings across the state.
Officials with the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that no law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.
No additional information about the suspect’s condition or identity has been made available at this time.
Authorities say more details will be released as the investigation continues.
