Knoxville, TN (WOKI) – A Knoxville man is facing charges after police say he stole heavy equipment and caused significant damage at a downtown landmark.
According to the Knoxville Police Department, officers responded to the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame on May 23 and found a crashed and abandoned boom lift. Investigators say 42-year-old Justin Hensley took the lift from a construction site on Main Street before damaging the building, either by crashing into it or breaking a window.
Court records estimate the damage at around $8,000. The stolen boom lift itself is valued at approximately $360,000. Police said nothing was reported stolen from the building.
Officers were able to identify Hensley using camera footage from the department’s Real Time Information Center, which uses a network of cameras to assist investigations.
Hensley is now charged with felony theft and felony vandalism.
