Jefferson City, TN (WOKI / WVLT) – The National Weather Service says a funnel cloud reported Saturday afternoon in Jefferson County did not pose a danger to the public.
According to forecasters, the funnel cloud was spotted near Jefferson City and Talbott, with some viewers also reporting a sighting closer to the Morristown area.
The NWS said the rotation associated with the funnel cloud was very weak and developed along a frontal boundary. Meteorologists noted that while these types of rotations can occasionally produce funnel clouds, the overall weather conditions were not favorable for tornado development.
As a result, the cloud formation did not become a tornado and did not present a threat to the area.
Officials encourage residents to stay informed on changing weather conditions through reliable sources and weather alert apps.
