KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) — Dolly Parton announced Tuesday that her long-awaited stage musical, “Dolly: A True Original Musical,” will make its Broadway debut in New York City this winter.
The country music superstar said the production has been more than two years in the making and chronicles key moments from her life and career. The musical will feature many of Parton’s biggest hits, along with new songs created specifically for the show.
In a social media announcement, Parton shared her excitement about bringing her story to the Broadway stage.
“My whole life has been a musical. A grand ole opera really and I can’t wait to present it to you on Broadway. I hope you enjoy watching as much as I’ve enjoyed livin’ it,” Parton said.
The production previously held a developmental run at Belmont University’s Fisher Center in Nashville last year. The engagement marked the first time the venue hosted the world premiere of a new musical featuring a professional cast.
The Broadway production will begin preview performances at the historic St. James Theatre on Dec. 7, 2026. Opening night is scheduled for Jan. 19, 2027, which coincides with Parton’s 81st birthday.
Fans will have an early opportunity to secure seats as presale tickets become available Wednesday, July 8 at 10 a.m. General public ticket sales begin Friday, July 10 at 10 a.m.
Organizers said tickets will initially be available for performances running through Nov. 21, 2027.
