SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) — An 83-year-old woman died after an early morning house fire in Sevierville on Monday, according to city officials.
The Sevierville Fire Department was dispatched to a residence on Mark Ann Lane at approximately 2:30 a.m. on July 6. When firefighters arrived, officials said the home was about 50 percent engulfed in flames, and a vehicle parked in the driveway was also on fire.
Firefighters quickly entered the residence to search for anyone inside. During the search, crews found Phyllis Girouard, 83, along with a dog.
Emergency responders removed Girouard from the home and immediately began lifesaving efforts. She was transported to LeConte Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.
The dog also did not survive the fire.
Authorities said a second occupant of the home, identified as Girouard’s adult daughter, was able to escape before firefighters arrived and was not injured.
No firefighters suffered injuries while battling the blaze.
The Sevierville Fire Department said the fire was brought under control, and investigators are now working to determine what sparked the deadly incident.
The Sevierville Fire Marshal’s Office is conducting an investigation into the cause and origin of the fire. No additional information has been released at this time.
City officials extended their condolences to the family affected by the tragedy as the investigation continues.
