NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI) — Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett is reminding eligible voters that the deadline to register for the upcoming August 6 Primary Election is 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, July 7.
State officials are encouraging voters who have not yet registered, or who need to update their registration information, to do so as soon as possible through the state’s secure online voter registration system at GoVoteTN.gov or by using the GoVoteTN App.
“When you don’t vote, you turn over the keys of government to those who do. Here in Tennessee, we want every eligible citizen to cast a ballot, but the first step is registering,” Hargett said in a statement.
Eligible Tennesseans with a Tennessee driver’s license or a photo ID issued by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security can register online using a computer, smartphone, or tablet.
Coordinator of Elections Mark Goins said Tennessee continues to emphasize election security while encouraging voter participation.
“For the fourth year in a row, the State of Tennessee has been ranked number one in Election Integrity. We want all eligible Tennesseans to register to vote and cast a ballot in this election to experience our secure elections and let their voices be heard,” Goins said.
Voters may also complete a paper voter registration application available through GoVoteTN.gov and submit it to their local county election commission office.
Tennessee does not offer Election Day voter registration.
Early voting for the August 6 Primary Election begins July 17 and continues through August 1.
Additional voting information is available at GoVoteTN.gov and through the free GoVoteTN App.
