KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI) – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has identified the man killed in a Friday night officer-involved shooting in East Knox County.
According to the TBI, Andrew Seth Henderlight, 37, died after being shot by Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputies following a vehicle pursuit.
Investigators say the incident began just after 9:30 p.m. when deputies attempted a traffic stop near Strawberry Plains Pike and John Sevier Highway after observing a vehicle speeding and failing to maintain its lane. The driver, identified as Henderlight, refused to stop and led deputies on a pursuit.
The chase came to an end in the 7800 block of Kodak Road. Authorities say the situation escalated for reasons still under investigation, resulting in three deputies firing their weapons and striking Henderlight.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials confirm that no deputies were injured.
TBI agents are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the shooting, including collecting evidence and conducting interviews. Their findings will be turned over to 6th Judicial District Attorney General Charme Allen, who will determine whether the deputies’ actions were justified.
