Blount County, TN (WOKI / WVLT) – The Blount County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help as investigators work to identify the driver responsible for a deadly hit-and-run that claimed the life of a local woman.
Deputies say the crash happened around 10:30 a.m. in the 3800 block of Old Niles Ferry Road. Emergency crews responded after receiving a call about a woman found badly injured in a ditch along the roadway.
Authorities have identified the victim as 70-year-old Joyce Frey. Investigators believe Frey was riding her bicycle when she was struck by a pickup truck that left the scene.
Frey was airlifted to UT Medical Center in Knoxville, where she later died from her injuries.
Blount County Sheriff James Lee Berrong expressed condolences to the victim’s family and pledged a thorough investigation.
“I extend my deepest condolences to Ms. Frey’s family,” Berrong said. “Our deputies are working hard to determine what led to this tragedy and who may be responsible.”
Investigators are now asking for the public’s assistance in locating the suspected vehicle, described as a black or dark blue newer model GMC full-size pickup truck.
