KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) — A bald eagle that escaped from Dollywood in April is now making appearances in a Karns neighborhood.
Residents say the eagle, named Rockland, has been seen several times over the past few days—even wandering into a garage at one home. While neighbors were amazed by the rare close-up encounter, they’re also conflicted about the bird’s future.
Some say they’d love to see the eagle remain free, but understand it may still need care.
The American Eagle Foundation, which manages Dollywood’s eagle sanctuary, confirmed the bird’s identity and says teams are back in the area setting traps and monitoring Rockland in hopes of safely bringing him back to continue healing.
One neighbor described the encounter as unforgettable, especially with the nation approaching its 250th anniversary.
Officials are reminding the public not to approach the eagle. Anyone who spots a bald eagle in Karns or Pigeon Forge—especially one wearing a leg band—is asked to take a photo or video from a safe distance and contact the American Eagle Foundation.
