KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) – Riders on a popular Knoxville Area Transit route will see changes beginning Thursday after a North Knoxville bus stop serving a shopping center on Broadway is discontinued.
According to Knoxville Area Transit, Stop 2674, known as the Broadway Shopping Center stop on Route 24: Lincoln Park/Inskip, will be removed from service effective October 1, 2026. KAT said the change was made at the request of a nearby Kroger store.
In a notice provided to riders, KAT stated:
“At the request of Kroger, Knoxville Area Transit (KAT) will discontinue Stop 2674: Broadway Shopping Center on Route 24: Lincoln Park/Inskip on October 1, 2026.”
While the stop is being removed, transit officials emphasized that customers and employees traveling to the shopping center will still have several nearby options available.
Alternative stops include:
- Broadway @ McCroskey (Outbound)
- Woodland Ave & Fremont Pl (Inbound)
- Broadway Shopping Center, Broadway before McCroskey (Inbound)
KAT said the service change will be reflected in the Transit app beginning October 1, allowing riders to plan trips using the updated route information.
At this time, it remains unclear why Kroger requested the stop’s removal. Kroger did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the decision.
The stop closure affects riders in the North Knoxville area who use Route 24 to access businesses along Broadway, including the shopping center. Transit officials are encouraging passengers to review alternate boarding locations before traveling.
