KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) — Members of the Tennessee Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies across Tennessee are taking part in the annual Tip-A-Cop fundraiser Tuesday evening to benefit Special Olympics Tennessee.
The event is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 29 at participating Texas Roadhouse restaurants statewide. During the fundraiser, troopers and police officers volunteer as “celebrity waiters,” assisting restaurant staff while encouraging customers to make donations to support Special Olympics athletes.
Participating East Tennessee locations include:
- Knoxville (Turkey Drive)
- Knoxville (Kinzel Way)
- Knoxville (Morrell Road)
- Alcoa
- Sevierville
- Pigeon Forge
- Morristown
- Kingsport
- Johnson City
- Greeneville
along with numerous other Texas Roadhouse restaurants across the state.
According to Special Olympics Tennessee, Tip-A-Cop is part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run, the organization’s largest grassroots fundraising and public awareness campaign. The event brings law enforcement officers and communities together to raise money and awareness for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Organizers say 100 percent of donations collected during the event go directly to Special Olympics Tennessee programs. The funds help provide year-round athletic training, competitions, health services, leadership opportunities and other programs for more than 21,000 athletes across Tennessee.
Special Olympics Tennessee officials say the fundraiser not only helps support athletes but also strengthens partnerships between law enforcement officers and the communities they serve.
Residents wishing to support the event can visit any participating Texas Roadhouse location during the fundraiser and make a donation while dining.
