SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) — The City of Sevierville has suspended City Administrator Dustin Smith with pay after his arrest on a domestic violence charge in Northeast Tennessee.
According to a statement released by Mayor Robbie Fox, Smith was arrested Saturday by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office in Jonesborough following allegations made by his girlfriend.
Fox said Smith was charged with domestic violence and held on a $2,500 bond. After posting bond, Smith was released from custody.
As a result of the arrest, city officials have placed Smith on paid administrative leave while the criminal case and related investigation move forward.
Smith Denies Allegations
In a statement included in the city’s release, Smith denied the accusations against him and said he intends to defend himself through the legal process.
“I deny the allegations that I assaulted anyone. I will address this matter through the legal process and defend my honor and integrity. I respect the Board’s decision regarding my suspension and will comply with it. I look forward to a fair and timely resolution of this matter. Out of respect for the court process and everyone involved, I will not comment further on the facts while the case is pending.”
City Monitoring Case
Mayor Fox said city leaders are aware of the situation and will continue monitoring developments as the case proceeds through the court system.
Officials emphasized that the suspension is pending the outcome of the investigation and that no additional action has been announced at this time.
Interim Administrator Named
To ensure continuity of city operations, the city has appointed Doug Tarwater as interim city administrator while Smith remains on leave.
The city has not announced how long the suspension will remain in effect.
