KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI) — Knox County Parks and Recreation will begin construction of a new community building at Hardin Valley Community Park on September 28, bringing a long-planned gathering space and additional improvements to the growing community.
The project will include construction of the new Hardin Valley Community Building, a new park entrance, additional parking, and improved access to the park’s existing inclusive playground. Once completed, the facility will serve as a dedicated community gathering space managed by Knox County Parks and Recreation.
County officials say the project is designed to create a central location where residents can meet, participate in programs, attend events and strengthen community connections.
Construction will be completed by Johnson & Gaylon Construction and overseen by PBA Property Development. Work is expected to take approximately 13 months, with project completion anticipated during the winter of 2027.
Because of the scope of the construction project, Hardin Valley Community Park will be closed to the public beginning September 28 and will remain closed throughout the construction period.
Knox County Commissioner Terry Hill said the project is the result of years of community advocacy and planning.
“We are excited to bring a new community building to Hardin Valley that will provide a central hub for residents to gather, connect, and participate in programs and events,” Hill said. “This project represents what years of advocacy can accomplish when prioritizing the future of the communities we serve.”
Hardin Valley Community Park is located at 12734 Hickory Creek Road in West Knox County.
