KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) — Funeral services have been announced for former Knox County Sheriff Tom Spangler, who died Thursday following a years-long battle with pancreatic cancer.
According to Spangler’s obituary, family, friends, members of law enforcement and the community will have an opportunity to pay their respects during visitation services next week.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Sept. 17, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Clear Springs Baptist Church. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation and will be officiated by Dr. Bruce Spangler and Pastor Justin Pratt.
A graveside service is scheduled for the following day.
On Thursday, Sept. 18, a funeral procession will depart from Mynatt Funeral Home at 1 p.m. and travel to East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. The graveside service is expected to begin at approximately 2 p.m.
Spangler’s death was announced Thursday after his lengthy fight with pancreatic cancer. He served Knox County in law enforcement for decades and was widely recognized for his leadership as sheriff and his long-standing commitment to public service.
Community members, current and former law enforcement officers and local leaders are expected to attend the services to honor Spangler’s life and legacy.
