KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) – One of East Tennessee’s most recognizable fast-food chains may soon be expanding its footprint into Knox County.
Property records appear to indicate that Pal’s Sudden Service is planning a new location at 7602 Strawberry Plains Pike in Knoxville.
According to Knox County property records, the site was purchased in May by Cro-Bar LLC, a company based in Kingsport. Records show the company shares the same address as Pal’s corporate headquarters at 1001 Konnarock Road in Kingsport, fueling speculation that the beloved burger chain is preparing for another expansion.
While Pal’s has not publicly announced plans for a Knoxville-area restaurant, the property purchase has generated excitement among fans of the regional fast-food brand.
East Tennessee Fast-Food Icon
Pal’s got its start in 1956 when the first restaurant opened in Kingsport. Over the decades, the company has developed a loyal following across Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.
Known for its distinctive blue-and-white buildings and oversized food replicas on the exterior, Pal’s serves a menu featuring:
- Burgers
- Hot dogs
- French fries
- Chili items
- Sweet tea
- Milkshakes
The company has expanded to more than 30 independently owned locations throughout the region.
National Recognition
Beyond its popularity with customers, Pal’s has gained recognition for operational excellence and quality management.
The restaurant chain has received several prestigious honors, including:
- The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award
- The Tennessee Quality Award
The awards recognize organizations that demonstrate exceptional performance, customer service and operational management.
Potential Knoxville Expansion
If the Strawberry Plains Pike project moves forward, it would represent a significant expansion for the Kingsport-based company into the Knoxville market.
The proposed site is located in a rapidly growing area of East Knox County with easy access to Interstate 40 and surrounding residential developments.
At this time, no construction timeline or opening date has been announced, and officials with Pal’s have not publicly commented on the property purchase.
For now, fans of the iconic drive-thru chain will be watching closely to see whether Knoxville becomes the next home of a Pal’s Sudden Service location.
