KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI) — The Knox County Election Commission is reminding voters of several important details before heading to the polls for the Thursday, August 6 election.
Election officials emphasized that this election will take place on a Thursday, rather than the more traditional Tuesday election day.
Although it is a primary election, all registered voters will receive a county general election ballot, officials said.
Poll Hours and Voter ID Requirements
Polling places across Knox County will be open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday.
Election officials say any voter who is in line by 8 p.m. will be allowed to cast a ballot.
Voters must present a valid photo identification issued by either:
- The State of Tennessee
- The U.S. Federal Government
Acceptable forms of identification include Tennessee driver’s licenses and U.S. passports.
Officials noted that driver’s licenses issued by other states are not valid for voting in Tennessee.
Parking Challenges Expected at School Polling Locations
Election officials are encouraging voters assigned to polling places located inside Knox County schools to plan ahead.
Many schools will be hosting teacher in-service activities during the day, potentially creating parking challenges. Voters may want to consider casting ballots during evening hours when school-related traffic has decreased.
Absentee Ballot Deadline Reminder
Voters who still possess absentee-by-mail ballots and are concerned they may not arrive by Election Day can take them to:
Downtown Post Office
- 501 West Main Street
Weisgarber Road Post Office
- 1237 Weisgarber Road
Ballots must be presented at the front counter and hand-stamped by 4 p.m. Thursday, August 6.
Election officials will collect ballots received at those facilities later in the day.
New Polling Locations
Several Knox County precincts have new voting locations for 2026:
- Precinct 61E: Faithway Baptist Church, 4402 Crippen Road
- Precinct 63: Karns High School, 2710 Byington Solway Road
- Precinct 66SE: Korean Church of Knoxville, 108 Farlow Drive
- Precinct 68: Election Commission Downtown West, 1645 Downtown West Boulevard, Unit 40
- Precinct 78 (including former Precinct 77): Marbledale Baptist Church, 5935 Thorn Grove Pike
Officials stress that voters must vote at their assigned precinct on Election Day.

Voters unsure of their assigned polling location can visit KnoxVotes.org and use the “Where Do I Vote?” tool by entering their residential address.
Election officials encourage voters to verify their polling location before heading out, particularly if they voted at a different site in previous elections.
