Knoxville Man Arrested, Accused of Trying to Break into Ex-Girlfriend’s Apartment

Knoxville, TN (WOKI) A Knoxville man is facing several charges after police say he attempted to break into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment Wednesday afternoon.

Knoxville Police Department officials say officers responded around 3:15 p.m. to an apartment complex on Mansion Avenue after receiving a call that an armed man was trying to break into one of the units.

Upon arriving on scene, witnesses told them the suspect, later identified as 25-year-old Elijah Cotner, had run away.

Officers found Cotner in the parking lot of another apartment complex nearby wherein a search of his backpack revealed a loaded handgun, suspected marijuana and over $800 in cash.

Cotner is facing multiple charges to include attempted aggravated burglary, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and schedule VI drug violations.

Cotner is expected to appear in court on July 7.
