Former West High Football Coach Wanted for Sexual Battery Arrested in Sevier County

Knoxville, TN (WOKI) A former West High School football coach, accused of sex crimes, is arrested over the weekend in Sevier County.

Police arrested 57-year-old Richard Scott Shaver Friday night after a Knox County grand jury indicted him on four counts of sexual battery by an authority figure and two counts of attempted sexual battery by an authority figure.

According to the May 21 indictment, Shaver is accused of knowingly making sexual contact with a student, between the ages of 13 and 18, multiple times between August and November 2024.

The charges describe how Shaver intentionally touched the student inappropriately and attempted to make the student have sexual contact with him. Court records alleged the former coach used his authority at West High School to bring about the sexual contact.

Shaver’s arrest follows that of assistant football coach Chad Brooks who was indicted by a grand jury earlier this month on multiple counts of aggravated statutory rape.

Head football coach Lamar Brown was also placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation.
