University of Tennessee Lays Out Revised Fall Semester

The University of Tennessee announced changes to the fall semester schedule.

The fall semester is scheduled to start on-time on August 19th. The final day of classes will be November 24th with final exams being held online after Thanksgiving.

In order to adjust for the semester being cut short, the University is removing the off-day scheduled for Labor Day and cancelling the previously scheduled two-day fall break.

UTK chancelor Donde Plowman said, “unfortunately, it’s too soon to say how the spread of the virus will impact the dates for in-person commencement and hooding ceremonies.”

The goal of the revised semester is to attempt to limit students coming and going from campus which should also limit the spread of the Coronavirus through the campus community. Tennessee is among a handful of other Universities taking this approach to the fall semester including the University of South Carolina who was one of the first schools to announce the semester change.
