Trump Admin to Put Most of D.C. USAID Staff on Leave

The Trump administration intends to put nearly the entire Washington, D.C., staff of the United States Agency for International Development on leave, according to Politico.

The move is the latest strike the administration has launched against the agency, which is the main conduit through which humanitarian aid from the U.S. flows. Tech billionaire Elon Musk, who chairs the Department of Government Efficiency, has targeted USAID in particular for funding cuts as he seeks to reduce the size of the federal government in alignment with President Donald Trump’s priorities.

Citing a person familiar with the matter, Politico reported that approximately 1,400 people will be notified Tuesday, in addition to the around 600 who were placed on leave Sunday night.
