President Donald Trump’s decision to delay tariffs on products from Mexico is a “step in the right direction” in fighting cartels, according to Ray Donovan, former chief or operations at the Drug Enforcement Administration.
“We have 30 days before the president is going to see if there are any advancements in this agreement,” Donovan, who helped capture the notorious drug kingpin known as El Chapo, told “Elizabeth Vargas Reports” on Monday. “It’s short-term, but I see it as a reset and opportunity for Mexico to go after the cartels.”
Trump said in a statement announcing the pause that he had a “very friendly conversation” with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum in which “she agreed to immediately supply 10,000 Mexican soldiers on the Border separating Mexico and the United States.”
