KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI) –
The Knoxville Police Department has identified the victim of a deadly shooting that occurred early Saturday morning in the 2100 block of East Magnolia Avenue as 26-year-old Jouquon Jackson.
According to KPD, officers were dispatched around 4:20 a.m. Saturday to a reported shooting in a parking lot at 2103 E. Magnolia Avenue near North Kyle Street. When officers arrived, they found Jackson suffering from a gunshot wound.
Jackson was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
Following what police described as an exhaustive investigation, Homicide Unit detectives now believe Jackson was involved in a physical altercation with another individual in the parking lot before the shooting occurred.
Investigators continue to work to determine exactly what led up to the gunfire and whether any criminal charges are warranted. At this time, no suspect has been arrested or charged in connection with the case.
Because no arrests have been made, there are currently no fines, penalties, or court actions associated with the investigation. Detectives are continuing to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and review the circumstances surrounding the altercation and shooting.
Crime Lab personnel responded to assist Homicide Unit detectives with processing the scene. Authorities have not released a description of any potential suspect.
Anyone with information that may help investigators is encouraged to contact East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers anonymously at 877-363-8847. Tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward.
KPD says additional information will be released as the investigation progresses.
