KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) –
East Tennessee’s culinary scene received a major boost Wednesday as several local restaurants were recognized in the 2026 Michelin Guide American South.
The annual guide, considered one of the most prestigious restaurant rating systems in the world, highlighted restaurants across the region during a ceremony held at The Pinnacle in downtown Nashville.
Among the biggest winners was A Dopo in Knoxville, which earned a new Bib Gourmand designation. The award recognizes restaurants that offer exceptional food at a good value and is considered one of Michelin’s most sought-after honors short of earning a Michelin Star.
New Michelin-Recommended Restaurants
Three East Tennessee restaurants were added to Michelin’s list of Recommended establishments for 2026:
- Au Bon Coin in Knoxville
- Raven Steakhouse in Maryville
- Wilder at Windy Hill Farm & Preserve in Loudon
The recognition places the restaurants among some of the top dining destinations in the American South.
Au Bon Coin, a French restaurant located on Broadway in Knoxville, is operated by the owners behind popular Knoxville eateries A Dopo and Potchke Deli.
Returning Michelin Recognition
Several East Tennessee restaurants maintained their Michelin Recommended status:
- J.C. Holdway in Knoxville
- Potchke Deli in Knoxville
- The Restaurant at RT Lodge in Maryville
Their continued inclusion reflects the region’s growing reputation for high-quality dining experiences.
Economic Impact of Michelin Recognition
While there are no fines, penalties, or regulatory consequences associated with Michelin rankings, the honors often carry significant economic benefits. Restaurants recognized by Michelin frequently experience increased customer demand, higher tourism traffic, expanded reservations, and greater national visibility.
Industry analysts have long noted that Michelin recognition can generate substantial revenue opportunities for restaurants and surrounding communities by attracting food-focused travelers and boosting local hospitality businesses.
Tennessee’s Michelin Honors
Statewide, Tennessee saw three restaurants maintain their One Michelin Star status:
- Bastion (Nashville)
- The Catbird Seat (Nashville)
- Locust (Nashville)
A Dopo joined restaurants in Memphis and Nashville as new Bib Gourmand recipients for 2026.
The American South Guide now includes 265 restaurants representing 44 different cuisine types across the region.
A Growing Profile for East Tennessee Dining
The latest Michelin selections demonstrate the continued growth of East Tennessee’s restaurant industry, with Knoxville, Maryville, and Loudon establishments increasingly gaining attention alongside larger culinary markets such as Nashville, Atlanta, and New Orleans.
The Michelin Guide began in France more than a century ago and remains one of the world’s most respected restaurant evaluation systems, relying on anonymous inspectors who review restaurants using standardized criteria.
Tourism leaders and restaurant owners alike say the latest honors further establish East Tennessee as a destination for food lovers visiting the region.
