KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI) — The Knoxville Police Department is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred early Tuesday morning at the interchange of Interstate 275 and Interstate 640.
According to police, officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 12:56 a.m. after receiving reports of a crash involving a Chevrolet truck on the ramp from I-275 North to I-640 East.
When officers arrived, they found the truck had crashed into the wall along the right shoulder of the ramp. The adult male driver was discovered unresponsive inside the vehicle. Authorities said there were no passengers in the truck at the time of the crash.
First responders immediately began life-saving efforts, including CPR, before transporting the driver to a nearby hospital. Despite those efforts, the victim was pronounced dead a short time later.
Members of the Knoxville Police Department Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and are leading the investigation into what caused the crash.
At this time, investigators have not determined what factors contributed to the collision. Police say the investigation remains active and ongoing.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of family members.
