NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI)- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is inviting anglers and outdoor enthusiasts to help shape the future of fishing regulations across the Volunteer State.
TWRA announced that a public comment period for proposed 2027-28 fishing regulations will be open from July 15 through August 16, 2026. During that time, fishermen, conservation groups and other stakeholders can submit comments and suggestions regarding Tennessee’s fishing rules and management practices.
Agency officials say public feedback plays an important role in the regulation-setting process and is considered alongside scientific research and biological assessments collected by fisheries staff throughout the state.
TWRA biologists regularly monitor fish populations, evaluate habitat conditions and gather information about angler activity through surveys and field studies. The data is used to guide decisions involving fish stocking, habitat improvements, conservation efforts and fishing regulations.
According to the agency, all information gathered through research and public input is reviewed as part of the process of developing effective management strategies for Tennessee’s lakes, rivers and streams.
After the initial comment period closes, TWRA staff will review feedback and develop proposed regulation changes for presentation to the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission at its December meeting.
A second public comment period will be held after the proposed regulations are presented to the commission, providing anglers another opportunity to share input before any final decisions are made.
Regulations approved by the commission would take effect on August 1, 2027.
TWRA encourages anyone interested in Tennessee fisheries management to participate in the process and submit comments before the August deadline.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency oversees the conservation and management of the state’s fish and wildlife resources while also promoting public safety through law enforcement, boating education and outdoor recreation programs.
