SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI) — MEDIC Regional Blood Center is expanding its footprint in East Tennessee with plans to open a permanent donor center in Sevierville, providing year-round blood donation opportunities in Sevier County.
The Sevierville Donor Center, located at 1536 Winfield Dunn Parkway, is expected to open in mid-January 2027. The facility will offer whole blood, double red (ALYX) and platelet donations, helping support the blood supply needs of hospitals throughout the region.
The expansion marks MEDIC’s first fixed donor center addition since 2018 and is expected to significantly increase blood collection capacity in one of East Tennessee’s fastest-growing counties.
“We are very excited to announce this expansion and to have a permanent location in Sevier County,” said Kristy Altman, MEDIC’s vice president of communications and public relations. “This expansion will allow us to operate in the area six days per week year-round and that will provide a huge boost for our blood product inventory.”
Community leaders welcomed the announcement, noting MEDIC’s longstanding presence and service in the area through mobile blood drives and community partnerships.
“MEDIC is a force for good across our region,” said Erin Cavette, membership director for the Sevierville Chamber of Commerce. “While they’ve been engaged Chamber members for over eight years, we’re excited to officially welcome them to the community when their new Sevierville location opens early next year.”
While construction continues on the new facility, MEDIC plans to host periodic blood drives at the future donor center location. The first community blood drive is scheduled for July 17 from noon until 6 p.m.
Officials said construction is already underway and hiring for the new center will begin in mid-August 2026.
The new donor center is expected to provide greater convenience for Sevier County residents who want to donate blood while helping MEDIC maintain a stable inventory of blood products for patients across East Tennessee.
