Union County, TN (WOKI) – Drivers in Union County should prepare for a temporary road closure this weekend as construction work gets underway at a busy intersection.
According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation, Raccoon Valley Road will be closed at Maynardville Highway (State Route 33) beginning at approximately 4 p.m. on Friday, June 26. The closure is necessary as crews work to build and connect a new roadway alignment as part of an ongoing project.
During the closure, motorists traveling westbound on Raccoon Valley Road will be detoured to State Route 61 to navigate around the work zone. TDOT officials say Maynardville Highway (State Route 33) itself will remain open to traffic throughout the construction period.
The temporary traffic pattern is expected to remain in place through 6 a.m. on Monday, June 29, allowing crews to complete the critical phase of work.
Officials note that the schedule is weather dependent and could change if conditions are unfavorable.
Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, anticipate delays, and use caution when traveling through the area, as construction crews will be present.
More information about the State Route 33 project can be found on the Tennessee Department of Transportation website.
