NASHVILLE, TN (WOKI / WVLT) — The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency reports a safe start to the summer boating season, with no boating-related fatalities recorded over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
The reporting period ran from 5 p.m. Friday through midnight Monday.
TWRA officials say there were two injury incidents during the weekend—one on the Tennessee River in Decatur County and another on Old Hickory Lake in Wilson County.
Officers also made seven arrests for boating under the influence.
Officials believe rainy weather helped reduce boating activity across the state, contributing to the lower number of incidents.
Despite the positive holiday report, TWRA says there have been nine boating-related fatalities on Tennessee waterways so far in 2026. That compares to five fatalities at the same point last year.
TWRA continues to encourage safe boating practices as the busy summer season gets underway.
