Knoxville, TN (WOKI / WVLT) — A 15-year-old boy is in custody following an armed incident Monday night at a Knoxville apartment complex.
According to the Knoxville Police Department, officers spotted the teen around 10:45 p.m. at the Five Points apartment complex carrying an AR-style pistol. When officers attempted to approach him, the teen ran into an apartment on Taylor Homes Road.
Police say the teen exited the apartment a short time later, at which point he was detained without further incident.
Officers later obtained a search warrant for the apartment, where they discovered what was described as an “assault rifle” pistol loaded with green-tip ammunition. Additional ammunition and drug paraphernalia were also recovered at the scene.
The teen, who has not been identified due to his age, is now facing charges including unlawful possession of a weapon and evading arrest.
The incident remains under investigation.
