Two Charged in Crash that Closed I-40 for Over Six Hours in Sevierville, Police Say

Sevierville, TN (WOKI) Two people are facing charges after allegedly causing a crash that closed down Interstate 40 in Sevierville for over six hours Wednesday night.

Officials with the Sevierville Police Department say the crash happened around 8:00 p.m. on I-40 East near mile marker 409.

According to a preliminary investigation, a Toyota Camry crashed into a semi-truck, sending it and another semi-truck into the median. The Camry then crashed into a third semi-truck and got partially stuck underneath it.

Police say one of the semis that crashed into the median fell over on its side, trapping the 58-year-old driver inside. Emergency crews extricated the driver, who was then transported to an area hospital. His injuries are currently unknown.

No other injuries were reported.

SPD says the driver of the Toyota, 20-year-old Jonathan Negrete-Toledo, of Dandridge, was charged with underage driving while impaired and violation of implied consent. The passenger, 20-year-old Victor Campos, of White Pine, was charged with underage alcohol consumption.

The crash is currently under investigation.
