Maryville Man Convicted in FBI Murder Plot Sentenced to Life in Prison

Knoxville, TN (WOKI) The Maryville man convicted of plotting to murder Knoxville FBI employees after the January 2021 Capitol riots, has been sentenced to life in prison.

Edward Kelley was at the Capitol on January 6, 2021 and was later found guilty of destroying government property and impeding police officers. He was also found guilty of putting together a plan while he was awaiting trial to attack the Knoxville FBI office.

The plan involved putting together a kill list to be acted upon with car bombs and drones.

“The proof showed that Kelley developed a ‘kill list’ of law enforcement and distributed the list – along with videos containing images of his targets – to a co-conspirator as part of his ‘mission,’” a news release from the U.S. Justice Department said.

Kelley’s sentencing also comes after he filed an appeal claiming that President Donald Trump’s sweeping Jan. 6 pardons protected him from prosecution.

“Kelley was issued a full and unconditional pardon by President Donald J. Trump on January 20, 2025, on all charges ‘related to’ his conduct on January 6, 2021,” the motion claimed.

That motion was later denied.

Kelley is facing a life sentence, a sentence of 240 months, and another sentence set at 120 months; they’ll be served concurrently.
