Former Clinton High School Teacher Facing Dozens of Charges in Grade Changing Scandal, Records Show

Clinton, TN (WOKI) One of several people connected to a months-long investigation into a grade changing scandal at Clinton High School has been charged in Anderson County court.

Daniel “Clay” Turpin was fired from Anderson County Schools in May of 2024 after the school board voted on dismissal charges for him and Rachel Jones, another teacher at the school.

According to charging documents, Turpin is facing 24 counts of destruction and tampering with government records for allegedly logging into “Edgenuity,” the school district’s grading system, and changing failing grades to passing ones in February 2024.

According to records from Anderson County Schools, Turpin and Jones were accused of changing more than 1,500 grades. They, Clinton High School’s former principal, and several guidance counselors have been connected to the scandal.
