KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT)– A veteran lieutenant with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office has been reassigned pending the outcome of a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation probe into alleged misconduct.
According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation centers on Lt. John Sharp, who has worked for the agency for approximately 20 years. Most recently, Sharp served in the department’s Narcotics Unit.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation confirmed it opened an investigation last month at the request of District Attorney General Charme Allen. Authorities have not released details regarding the allegations being investigated.
In a statement, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office said Sharp has been moved to a non-investigative position while the inquiry remains active.
“As a result, Lt. Sharp has been reassigned to a non-investigative role pending the outcome of an investigation,” the sheriff’s office said.
The TBI said the investigation is ongoing and no additional information is being released at this time.
Neither the Knox County Sheriff’s Office nor the TBI has announced whether any charges have been filed. Officials have also not indicated when the investigation might be completed.
Sharp’s reassignment follows standard practice in many law enforcement agencies when allegations involving personnel are under investigation.
Further details are expected to be released if and when the investigation concludes.
