KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI)– Metro Drug Coalition is inviting the community to gather in downtown Knoxville for International Overdose Awareness Day 2026 on Monday, August 31, at Market Square.
The free event runs from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and aims to honor those lost to overdose, support families and loved ones, celebrate recovery, and connect individuals with local resources.
Organizers say the annual observance serves as a time of remembrance and hope while raising awareness about overdose prevention and recovery services available throughout the region.
The event will feature live entertainment, interactive games and activities, vendors, a recovery fair, community resources, and special commemorative merchandise. Attendees can also purchase or pick up pre-ordered International Overdose Awareness Day T-shirts.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Metro Drug Coalition Recovery Housing Support Fund, which provides scholarships to help individuals access safe and supportive recovery housing as they continue their recovery journey.

T-Shirt Opportunities
Community members can pre-order official IOAD 2026 T-shirts through August 15. Orders may be picked up at Market Square during the event.
Special “Always Remembered” custom photo memorial shirts are also available in adult sizes Small through 3XL. Youth “Let’s End Overdose” shirts are available in sizes ranging from infant to youth size 14.
Memorial Gathering Planned Before Event
Families who have lost loved ones to overdose are also invited to a special memorial gathering on the day before International Overdose Awareness Day.
The gathering will take place on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at Suttree Landing Park, 1001 Waterfront Drive in Knoxville. Participants are encouraged to bring a photo of their loved one for remembrance. A potluck meal will be provided by Metro Drug Coalition.
