Cocke County, TN (WOKI) – The Cocke County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation after a man was found dead Tuesday in Newport.
According to Sheriff C.J. Ball, authorities were called around noon Tuesday after the victim was discovered on Trail Hollow Road at Wheat Waynear below the bridge.
Emergency responders with the Newport Rescue Squad responded to the scene and later transported the victim to the Knoxville Forensic Center, where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death.
Investigators have not released the victim’s identity.
The sheriff’s office said no additional information is being made public at this time as detectives continue gathering evidence and determining the circumstances surrounding the death.

Sheriff’s officials emphasized that the case remains active and ongoing.
Detectives are asking anyone who may have information related to the incident to come forward.
