NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) — Miley Cyrus is sharing an emotional farewell to her godmother, Dolly Parton, just one day after the country music icon’s death at age 80.
In a heartfelt statement posted to Instagram Wednesday morning, Cyrus reflected on her decades-long relationship with Parton and the profound impact the East Tennessee legend had on her life.
“The feeling of losing my Aunt Dolly is beyond what feels right to share,” Cyrus wrote. She described their most meaningful memories as private moments that would remain “behind the stage, beneath the glamour and between our hearts.”
Cyrus also revealed that one of her final conversations with Parton focused on music and personal transformation. She said Parton’s influence will continue guiding her even after her death.
“What I KNOW is Dolly would want me to feel it, write a song about it, and then continue on and be strong,” Cyrus wrote. “I have an angel by my side. I always have.”
The tribute quickly resonated with fans already mourning Parton’s death, adding another deeply personal reflection to the growing number of remembrances from family, friends and fellow entertainers.
