KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) — Crews with the Hallsdale-Powell Utility District are working to restore normal water conditions after several days of discoloration linked to elevated manganese levels and algae in Melton Hill Lake.
In an update released Tuesday, the utility district said system-wide flushing is underway to clear remaining discolored water. Officials noted that while most customers should now be seeing improvements, some isolated areas may continue to experience temporary discoloration.
“We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to everyone who assisted during this period and, most importantly, to our customers for their patience and understanding,” the district said in its statement.
The issue stemmed from the district’s source water, though officials emphasized throughout the event that the water remained safe for use despite its appearance.
Still, some customers expressed ongoing concerns. Powell resident Michael Moats said water quality has been a recurring issue.
“I do have a little bit of a concern,” Moats said. “They’ve always had issues with hard water. And the water’s always been a little bit cloudy.”
The utility district did not provide a specific timeline for when all customers will see completely clear water but said the majority of the system has already returned to normal. Crews continue flushing lines to ensure any remaining affected water is cleared.
