KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI) —A quick-thinking employee is being recognized for her heroic actions after responding to a medical emergency at a local job center.
Emily Ellis, one of the newest team members overseeing the Knox County Criminal Court Clerk’s Community Service Program, sprang into action on April 9 while visiting the American Job Center on Middlebrook Pike.
While speaking with a man about driver’s license reinstatement, the individual suddenly collapsed.
Ellis and an American Job Center employee immediately assessed the situation, checking for a pulse and finding none. As the man began to turn blue, they began administering CPR without hesitation. Ellis’ swift response was informed by her prior training as a lifeguard at Dollywood’s Splash Country, where she learned life-saving emergency procedures.
Emergency services were quickly contacted, and upon arrival, the Fire Department administered naloxone after determining the man had experienced an overdose. He was then transported to an ambulance and is recovering.
In recognition of her life-saving efforts, Ellis was recently honored by Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs for her courage and quick action in a critical moment.
“Emily’s actions exemplify courage, preparedness, and compassion,” said Mayor Jacobs. “Her ability to remain calm under pressure and take immediate action made a critical difference in this situation. We are incredibly proud to have her on our team.”
