Two ETSU Employees Placed on Leave, Kirk Comments

KNOXVILLE, TN (Story courtesy of WVLT) – East Tennessee State University has confirmed that two of its employees have been placed on administrative leave after making posts on social media regarding the deadly shooting of Charlie Kirk on Wednesday.

An ETSU spokesperson says Dr. Andrew Herrmann and Dr. Russell Brown were both placed on administrative leave, pending further review, after the university received multiple complaints about posts that were made by them online.

According to ETSU’s website, Dr. Herrmann is an associate professor and an associate chair in the Department of Communication Studies and Storytelling and Dr. Brown is a professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences.

I can confirm that ETSU has received numerous complaints about online posts made by Dr. Andrew Herrmann and Dr. Russell Brown following the assassination of Mr. Charlie Kirk. I can also confirm both individuals are faculty members at ETSU and that both employees have been put on administrative leave, pending further review. Because this is a personnel issue, we cannot offer further comment at this time.
