Knoxville, TN (WOKI) The halfway point for early voting in the 2025 City of Knoxville primary election has arrived, and the stats for voter turnout are less than impressive.
According to the Knox County Election Commission, as of August 14, 2,002 early votes have been cast so far as well as 472 absentee ballots.
With over 82,800 registered voters eligible to vote in this election, that means that just over 2% have cast ballots at this point in the race for city council seats in districts 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6.
By contrast, in August 2021, when the same five council seats were up, 2,419 votes had been cast at the midpoint.
Early Votes Cast at the Halfway Point of the City of Knoxville Primary:
- August 2023: 2,831 (total votes cast – 16,648 – Mayor was on this ballot)
- August 2021: 2,419 (total votes cast – 10,043)
- August 2019: 3,428 (total votes cast – 19,304 – Mayor was on this ballot)
- August 2017: 1,443 (total votes cast – 7,141)
So far, District 4 has seen the highest number of votes with 625 ballots cast, while District 1 has seen the lowest with 379 ballots cast.

- District 1: 379 (out of 12,009 registered voters in District 1)
- District 2: 561 (out of 20,050 registered voters in District 2)
- District 3: 488 (out of 17,576 registered voters in District 3)
- District 4: 625 (out of 19,598 registered voters in District 4)
- District 6: 421 (out of 13,600 registered voters in District 6)
Those who want to have an absentee ballot have until Saturday, August 16, to request one by calling the Election Commission at 865-215-2480 or downloading an absentee request at www.knoxvotes.org. Early voting goes until Thursday, August 21. Election Day is set for Tuesday, August 26.
