The annual event serves as a way to honor active service members and veterans in East Tennessee, officials say.

French Broad Veterans Memorial Park to Host Free Veterans Picnic

Knoxville, TN (WOKI) A free picnic for veterans, active service members and family is coming to the French Broad Veterans Memorial Park next weekend.

Officials with the East Tennessee Military Affairs Council say the annual picnic aims to honor military members and veterans so they are never forgotten.

The event is set for Saturday, May 17 with opening ceremonies at 11:00 a.m. followed by lunch at the park located off of John Sevier Highway.

Attendees are asked to park at the East Tennessee State Veterans’ Cemetery and ride a shuttle to the event. Shuttles will run from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The picnic will be hosted by Captain Bill Robinson of Chapter #1078 of the Vietnam Veterans of America.
