Knox County Sheriff’s Office Identifies Victim in Deadly Head-On Crash

Knoxville, TN (WOKI) UPDATE 5/7/25: The Knox County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim in Monday’s fatal head-on crash on Millertown Pike.

KCSO officials say deputies responded to the 7300 block of the road, and emergency personnel pronounced one of the drivers, 25-year-old Jacob Donovan Saunders-Lashley, of Corryton, dead at the scene.

The other driver, 20-year-old Mason Shumate, was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

He was charged subsequently with vehicular homicide after police say he was driving under the influence at the time of the crash.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a head-on crash Monday on Millertown Pike kills at least one person.

KCSO officials say deputies responded to the 7300 block of the road, and emergency personnel pronounced one of the drivers dead at the scene. The other driver was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

According to KCSO, the driver transported to the hospital, 20-year-old Mason Shumate, has been charged with vehicular homicide; police say he was driving under the influence at the time of the crash.
