Here’s an August 24th update on transactions in the NFL involving University of Tennessee players in moves announced by the National Football League.

You’ll also find below the list of players that were at UT at one time before transferring and finishing their careers elsewhere as well as players that have local ties to the Knoxville area that did not attend the University of Tennessee.

The depth chart projections are from Ourlads.com.

Recent Roster Moves
8/14 – Falcons signed TE Luke Stocker
8/15 – 49ers waived TE and ex-Vol Daniel Helm
8/16 – Chiefs claimed Daniel Helm
8/17 – Patriots signed TE Alex Ellis
8/19 – Saints signed TE Ethan Wolf
8/20 – 49ers placed WR and ex-Vol Jalen Hurd on Reserve/Injured List
8/21 – Patriots waived Alex Ellis

No position has had more VFL movement than tight end in the NFL. Stocker rejoins the Falcons again. He spent a few years with Atlanta prior to his time with the Tennessee Titans. Helm was quickly claimed by Kansas City after being released by San Francisco. So Helm goes from backing up George Kittle to backing up Travis Kelce…the two guys that currently set the bar at the tight end position in the NFL. Alex Ellis joined VFL Jakob Johnson in the tight ends room in New England, but his stay there was brief. Ethan Wolf’s NFL tour continues as he lands with the team already with the most VFLs, New Orleans. He’s now teammates in Black and Gold with 3 guys he was teammates with in Orange and White…Alvin Kamara, Shy Tuttle and Marquez Callaway. Really sad news for Jalen Hurd, who tore his ACL last week and will miss his second consecutive season (his only two in the league) due to injury.

The current count, through Aug. 23, on overall NFL players impacted by the pandemic looks like this:
Reserve/COVID-19 List – 110 (only 1 added in the last 7 days and 8 added in last 16 days)
Activated Back From That List – 100
Currently On The List – 10

Final Opt-Outs – 66
