KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee redshirt freshman punter Joe Doyle has been name to the final candidate list for the 2018 Ray Guy Award announced by the Augusta Sports Council.

The Ray Guy Award is presented annually to college football’s most outstanding punter as judged by the Augusta Sports Council. The award is named after punter Ray Guy, an All-American for Southern Mississippi and an All-Pro in the NFL for the Oakland Raiders.

The Knoxville native has placed 17 punts inside the 20-yard line, which is second in the SEC while also registering 10 punts of 50 yards or more. In the game at Georgia on Sept. 29, Doyle booted a career-long 71-yarder, which was the longest by a Volunteer since Trevor Daniel produced a 72-yard punt against South Carolina on Oct. 14, 2017. That punt ranks as the 10th-longest in the country and the second-longest in the SEC this season.

Nominees are evaluated on their overall statistics and contributions to the team. Particular emphasis is placed on the following statistics: net average, percentage of total punts inside the 20-yard line, and percentage of punts not returned.

Doyle, in nine games has had 44 punts for 1,843 yards for an average of 41.9 yards. He has five touchbacks, 17 fair catches, 20 inside the 20 yard line, 11 for 50+ yards and three punts of 60 yards or more this season.

The Ray Guy Award winner is selected by a voting body for FBS sports information directors, national media and former Ray Guy Award winners.

Tennessee will host No. 9 ranked Kentucky on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. on the SEC Network.
