Heralded true freshman forward DJ Burns (Rock Hill, SC) enrolled at UT last week. Burns (6’8) was made available to Knoxville media today for the first time since his arrival on Rocky Top.

Here’s what Rick Barnes said about Burns:

“We targeted D.J. three years ago because he fits our culture on and off the court. His mom and dad have prepared him well, and we believe he’s got a really bright future. D.J. allows us to play through the high or low post. He’s a good passer, he can make perimeter shots and he’s got excellent footwork. With his attitude and approach, he’ll grow quickly and tremendously within our player development program. We’re excited about D.J. He’s a great addition for us.”

Asked what he feels like he can bring to the team right away, Burns said “A will to win.”

Burns was asked to describe his game:

“A post player that can stretch out. Post, back-to-the-basket, a lot of moves there. I’m also working on extending my game beyond the three-point line as well.”
